“Nourishing yourself in a way that helps you blossom in the direction you want to go is attainable, and you are worth the effort.”

—Deborah Day

Each person’s definition of body peace might be slightly different but there is one common thread across them all. That is, that body peace means ending the fight between you and your body. Body peace is about realizing and appreciating all of the things your body is doing for you, and all of the things it can do. It is through this practice of self-compassion, respecting your body and nurturing it, that one can begin to experience the feeling of greater ease and comfort in one’s body.

No matter where you are on your journey of healing your relationship with your body, it can be helpful to have tangible tools to help build body peace. These three strategies for building body peace, although fairly simple, can have a powerful, positive impact on your mindset and sense of well-being.

  1. Putting on lotion after you shower can often feel like an unnecessary or annoying step. It may be worth doing anyway. The sensory experience and caring gesture toward yourself can symbolize a moment of mind body connection that may be otherwise missing. The more you do it, the more grounding it can feel.

  2. For those who tend to save perfume/cologne for outings or special occasions, the practice of putting it on for no one but yourself can be an act of self-care. As the scent wafts up to you, it can elicit feelings of confidence, calmness, joy, etc. If you are not a big perfume/cologne wearer, you can experiment with lighting scented candles with the same objective.

  3. Do you spend all day in “work” clothes, or clothes that rub or squeeze you? It can be especially important, when it comes time to sleep, to allow your body to finally be free from that subconscious, nagging discomfort. Sleeping in something that is soft and loose (or nothing at all) can do wonders in terms of providing your body relief, a sense of calm and safety, and a chance to recharge.

Remember, you don’t have to try all three of these tools at once. Start with one and work your way up.
